Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu on Saturday said the government was working to develop agriculture and improve the welfare of farmers across the country.
He made the remarks as chief guest at a programme to distribute agricultural incentive inputs among farmers at the Natore Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium.
Dulu said the government had launched a nationwide canal excavation programme to improve irrigation facilities and support agricultural production.
He also said agricultural loans of up to Tk10,000 had already been waived.
The whip said farmers were being provided with Farmer Cards to help them access agricultural loans, incentive schemes and other government services.
Distribution of the cards was continuing across the country to ensure greater protection and support for farmers, he added.
Describing farmers as a driving force of the national economy, Dulu said the country’s overall development depended on improving their livelihoods.
He assured that fertilisers, seeds and other agricultural inputs under the incentive programme would be distributed only among genuine farmers.
“There will be no irregularities or corruption in the distribution process,” he said.
Natore Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Azahar Ali chaired the programme, while Natore Zila Parishad Administrator Rahim Newaz attended as special guest.
