The government has decided to purchase 260,000 tonnes of diesel and crude oil to address the ongoing energy crisis in Bangladesh. The decision procure fuel was reached during a Cabinet Committee meeting held at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Further approvals were granted for the purchase of 100,000 metric tonnes of diesel from ExxonMobil Kazakhstan International and 100,000 tonnes of crude oil from Abir Trade and Global Markets, both through the Direct Procurement Method.
Additionally, the government has decided to procure 60,000 metric tonnes of gas oil (diesel) from Indonesia’s PT Bumi Siak Pusako-Zapin on a Government-to-Government (G2G) basis.
These decisions come as the country grapples with a severe oil shortage. People have reportedly been waiting for hours at various refilling stations only to find no fuel available, as the crisis continues to intensify daily.
