Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the Education Ministry to explore alternative measures to reduce traffic congestion in the capital during school hours.
The instruction came at a meeting held on Tuesday morning at the Secretariat, where the prime minister met Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, according to Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.
“The prime minister discussed how traffic congestion during school hours in Dhaka can be reduced and what alternative arrangements could be introduced. He asked the ministry to prepare and submit proposals in this regard,” Rumon said.
He noted that heavy traffic congestion during school opening and closing hours has become a persistent problem across the capital.
Highlighting the severity of the problem, the prime minister cited an example of a school where nearly 100 cars gather in front of a school for around 150 students during opening and closing hours, causing severe traffic congestion and making it difficult for students to reach the institution on time.
The prime minister advised the ministers to address these problems and come up with practical, effective solutions.
After the meeting with the education officials, Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku and State Minister for Energy Aninda Islam Amit also met the prime minister, the press secretary said.
Later, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan paid a courtesy call on the prime minister.
