The Advisers Council Committees on Government Purchase and Economic Affairs have approved a series of import and infrastructure proposals involving rice, fertiliser, and refined fuel oil, along with key power and administrative projects aimed at strengthening national supply chains and economic infrastructure.

The 42nd meeting of the Government Purchase Committee, chaired by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, approved the import of 100,000 tonnes of rice, including non-Basmati and Atap varieties, worth about Tk 446.22 crore.

Of the total, 50,000 tonnes of non-Basmati parboiled rice will be brought under an international open tender at a cost of Tk 216.90 crore from M/S CredentOne FZCO, Dubai, while another 50,000 tonnes of Atap rice will be imported from Myanmar under a government-to-government arrangement worth Tk 229.32 crore through the Myanmar Rice Federation.

The same meeting approved the import of 1.05 lakh tonnes of fertiliser to ensure uninterrupted agricultural supply. This includes 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from OCP Nutricrops, Morocco, 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser from Russia’s JSC Prodintorg, and 30,000 tonnes of granular urea from Saudi Arabia’s SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company.

The combined value of these fertiliser imports exceeds Tk 664 crore. The committee also endorsed construction of a 10,000-tonne buffer godown in Barguna under the “Construction of 34 Buffer Godowns” project at a cost of Tk 51.74 crore.

In addition, the Purchase Committee cleared a Tk 208.99 crore proposal under the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) for constructing access roads at the Mirsarai-2A and 2B Economic Zones in Chattogram, with Monico Limited as contractor. It also endorsed a Power Division proposal for reprocessing the procurement of five GIS-type substations under the BREB’s Khulna power distribution modernisation project.

Separately, the 34th meeting of the Economic Affairs Committee, also chaired by Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, gave policy approval for two major projects — the import of refined fuel oil under a government-to-government arrangement for the 2026 calendar year, and the procurement of e-passport materials under the Home Ministry.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division’s proposal for G2G fuel imports was recommended in principle to ensure energy security and uninterrupted fuel supply. The Home Ministry’s proposal under the “Introduction of E-Passport and Automated Border Control Management” project was also endorsed, covering the procurement of one crore e-passport raw materials and 57 lakh booklets through direct contracting.

Officials said the approvals reflect the government’s efforts to ensure food security, energy stability, and improved administrative efficiency through timely imports and infrastructure development.
