Govt invites foreign observers for election: Touhid

Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain on Saturday said the government has invited international election observers as part of its efforts to prevent chaos and ensure a fair and peaceful 13th National Parliamentary Election.

He made the remarks around 11am while inaugurating a campaign caravan on the upcoming national election and the implementation of the July National Charter at the Bhola Government School ground.

Touhid Hossain said European Union and the American Republican Institute- each will send election observers. “We will extend all necessary cooperation to them and ensure that their security is fully maintained,” he said.

Referring to public enthusiasm ahead of the polls, the adviser said people are eager to exercise their voting rights after being deprived of them for a long time.

He expressed hope that the upcoming election would be held in a festive and inclusive atmosphere with the participation from all.

He also acknowledged that minor irregularities can occur in any election, but emphasised that the most important issue is whether the people’s will is reflected in the results.

“That was not the case in the so-called three elections in the past. We hope the forthcoming election will be conducted properly,” Touhid added.
