The government has extended the timeframe for Bangladeshi citizens residing abroad to correct their passport information and apply for the issuance or re-issuance of passports by an additional six months.
Under the new decision, this special facility will remain effective until 31 December.
A notification was issued on Tuesday by the Immigration-4 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Nuruzzaman.
The notification stated that the tenure of the previously issued order has been extended in the public interest to ensure that passport-related services for expatriate Bangladeshi citizens continue uninterrupted.
As a result of this extension, Bangladeshi nationals living abroad who need to amend their name, date of birth, parents’ names, or other information can submit applications for the issuance or re-issuance of passports based on the corrected data within the stipulated period.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the deadline set by an order issued on 8 July 2025 was originally scheduled to expire on 30 June this year.
The latest decision pushes this deadline to 31 December. The notification further mentioned that this decision takes effect immediately, and all relevant departments have been instructed to take the necessary measures.
Copies of the notification have been dispatched to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Department of Immigration and Passports, all Bangladesh missions abroad, and other concerned offices.
Stakeholders believe that the extension will provide an opportunity for many Bangladeshis abroad, who were unable to apply for passport corrections within the previous timeframe, to complete the necessary procedures.
This move is expected to make passport-related services more accessible for expatriates, benefiting them in their legal travel and other administrative activities.
