The government has introduced a set of comprehensive measures to ensure safe travel and maintain law and order during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha holiday period, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Wednesday.
He made the announcement while briefing journalists after a session on the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
The minister said all preparations have been completed to facilitate safe public movement and ensure a smooth Eid celebration nationwide.
“We have taken all necessary steps so that people can travel safely and celebrate Eid without disruption,” he said, adding that all law enforcement agencies are operating in close coordination to maintain security across the country.
He noted that cattle markets will not be allowed on roads or near railway tracks under any circumstances. In major markets, police will deploy body-worn cameras along with counterfeit currency detection devices to strengthen monitoring.
A central control and monitoring cell will be set up at Police Headquarters one week before Eid to ensure continuous oversight, alongside enhanced surveillance on highways across the country.
Special security arrangements will also be in place at ferry terminals and river routes. The government will further run public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing road accidents during Eid travel.
In addition, free salt will be distributed at the upazila level to assist in preserving sacrificial animal hides and prevent post-Eid losses.
The minister expressed hope that the coordinated initiatives will ensure a safe, disciplined and hassle-free Eid journey for people across Bangladesh.
