Gold prices in the country have hit a fresh record, as the Bangladesh Jewellers Association raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,621 per bhori within a single day.
The new price has been set at Tk234,676 per bhori, up from Tk232,055 fixed for Wednesday, and will come into effect from Thursday, the association said.
In a press release issued on Wednesday evening, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association said the decision was taken in view of rising prices in the international market and growing demand pressure in the local market.
Under the revised rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk224,003 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will be sold at Tk191,986 per bhori. Gold made under the traditional method will be priced at Tk157,228 per bhori.
Silver prices have also been increased. The price of 22-carat silver has been set at Tk5,949 per bhori, 21-carat silver at Tk5,715 per bhori, and 18-carat silver at Tk4,899 per bhori. Silver made under the traditional method will be sold at Tk3,674 per bhori.
Earlier, on December 29, prices broke all previous records in the domestic market, reaching Tk229,431 per bhori.
