The government has officially suspended Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan, nearly two months after he was withdrawn from his post.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on Monday confirming the suspension.
According to the notification, Nazmul Karim Khan has been suspended from government service in the public interest under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules. During the suspension period, he will remain attached to the Ministry of Home Affairs and will receive a subsistence allowance as per government regulations.
The move follows a controversy in August when a report in a national daily alleged that the GMP commissioner frequently blocked roads during his daily commute, prompting public criticism. A show-cause notice was subsequently served regarding the incident.
Nazmul Karim Khan was withdrawn from his position as GMP commissioner on 1 September, pending further action.
