The Ganosamhati Andolan has announced the names of its candidates for 91 constituencies across the country ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Party Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki has been nominated for Brahmanbaria-6, while Executive Coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel will contest from Pabna-4 and Dhaka-10.
Notably, the Brahmanbaria-6 seat has been left vacant in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) recently announced list of 237 candidates.
The announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon at a press conference held at the party’s central office in Hatirpool, Dhaka.
Speaking at the event, Zonayed Saki said that discussions are underway with several liberal and centrist political parties about forming an electoral alliance in the interest of broader national unity. He added that the list of candidates may be adjusted if the alliance materialises.
Saki also criticized the increase in candidates’ security deposits in the revised election schedule, calling it undemocratic. He demanded that candidates be allowed to contest the election under the symbol of any allied party.
In addition, the Ganosamhati Andolan called for swift political consensus on implementing the July Charter, reaffirming its support for holding a referendum and the general election on the same day.
The party also announced the formation of a new 48-member central committee during the event.
Other nominated candidates for the upcoming elections include Taslima Akhter from Dhaka-12; Hasan Maruf Rumi from Chattogram-9; Dewan Abdur Rashid Neelu from Barishal-5; Tarikul Sujon from Narayanganj-5; Monir Uddin Pappu from Dhaka-7; Bacchu Bhuiyan from Dhaka-3; Julhasnain Babu from Pabna-2; Advocate Murad Morshed from Rajshahi-2; Dipak Kumar Roy from Lalmonirhat-2, 3; Alif Dewan from Tangail-6; Sentu Ali from Natore-1; AKM Shamsul Alam from Mymensingh-10; Mofakkharul Islam Moon from Rangpur-2; Touhidur Rahman from Rangpur-3; Syed Saiful Islam from Moulvibazar-4; Mostafizur Rahman Rajib from Mymensingh-4; Tosaddek Hossain (Saikat Arif) from Naogaon-5; Zahidul Alam Al-Jahid from Chattogram-4.
