Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has said that increasing the prices of daily essential commodities under the pretext of rising fuel costs is unacceptable.
The minister made these remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the Natural Park of Sylhet Zila Parishad on Friday (8 May).
Emphasising the need for logistical efficiency, the minister stated that enhancing port capacity is essential to reduce the transport costs of goods.
He noted that without such improvements, it would be impossible to lower overall supply costs.
Regarding market regulation, the minister highlighted that the government maintains the opportunity for supervision and will keep the market situation under close surveillance.
He issued a stern warning that no one will be spared if they attempt to untowardly influence the market.
Furthermore, he characterised the inflation resulting from the increase in fuel oil prices as “temporary”.
Addressing the trade agreement with the United States, the Muktadir clarified the government’s stance on national sovereignty.
He explained that if any clause within the agreement is found to go against national interests, there is provision within the contract itself to implement necessary changes
