Mirza Tanjim Shorif Mugdho, who shot to fame after winning the Channel i Shera Kontho singing competition, is set to embark on a new chapter in public service after securing a place in the Administration Cadre through the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination.
The singer ranked among the country’s top 50 candidates in the merit list and has been recommended for appointment as an Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate.
Sharing the news in a Facebook post on Tuesday night, Mugdho wrote: “Alhamdulillah. 47th BCS. Administration Cadre. I am delighted to share that I have been recommended for the post of Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate after securing a place among the country’s top 50 candidates on the merit list.”
Reflecting on the journey behind the achievement, he said years of hard work had paid off despite countless responsibilities, doubts and challenges. He also expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the success.
Mugdho, who has been serving as a lecturer at a private university in Dhaka since 2019, said his identity as a university teacher had given him immense personal satisfaction. He added that the joy of succeeding in the BCS examination had not diminished the value of that experience.
His academic excellence dates back to his school years. He received Talentpool scholarships in both the fifth and eighth grades, earned GPA-5 in the Secondary School Certificate examination from Mymensingh Zilla School and in the Higher Secondary Certificate examination from Notre Dame College, before studying engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Alongside his musical career, Mugdho excelled in mathematics. In 2012, he received an Honourable Mention at the 53rd International Mathematical Olympiad in Argentina. He also won the National Mathematics Olympiad six times.
Mugdho became a household name after winning Channel i Shera Kontho in 2010. Beyond music, he earned national-level awards in extempore speech, essay writing, painting, the Science Olympiad, the Mathematics Olympiad and the Physics Olympiad. Before entering BUET, he had already collected 29 national awards.
He also enjoyed success in sports, winning inter-school table tennis and basketball championships in 2008.
Born in Charpara, Mymensingh, Mugdho is the second of three brothers. His father, Iskandar Mirza, is a college teacher, while his mother, Tahmina Begum, works as a health inspector. He also has a twin brother.
Having excelled in music, mathematics, academics and leadership, Mugdho now prepares to begin a new chapter in the Administration Cadre, taking his journey from the Channel i Shera Kontho stage to public service.
