The separation of popular singers Robi Chowdhury and Doly Sayontoni has resurfaced in public debate following recent remarks made by Robi in a podcast titled ‘Raat Adda with Tanvir Tareq’. The famed singer appeared in the show’s third season.
The former couple, who were once regarded as one of the industry’s most admired pairs, had previously remained largely silent about the reasons behind their divorce.
However, in the podcast, Robi alleged that Dolly had been involved in an affair with a Korean expatriate driver named Biplob without his knowledge.
According to Robi, his suspicions arose after he noticed a phone number saved in Dolly’s mobile under the name ‘Dulabhai’. When he later contacted Dolly’s parents to verify the identity, he claimed they denied having any such relatives. Robi said that after gathering what he described as proof, he decided to proceed with the divorce.
The podcast clip quickly went viral on social media, triggering widespread discussion. While some users expressed support for Robi’s decision to speak out, many criticised him for publicly discussing personal matters.
Responding from Canada via WhatsApp, Doly told The TIMES of Bangladesh that the allegations were “misleading and baseless”. She stated, “The misleading and baseless information recently spread about our family and personal life is completely false and intentional. We do not wish to engage in any controversy over the matter. We are observing the situation with respect and trust in the law.”
Doly also clarified that she had filed for divorce herself. Although she declined to elaborate on her reasons, she noted that she had addressed the matter during a press conference at the time of the separation.
Robi has not issued any further detailed statement since the controversy intensified. However, in a Facebook post on Tuesday (3 March), he said he intended to refrain from giving interviews for the time being, writing that he wished to avoid further misunderstandings.
