Four Indian cricketers have been placed under temporary suspension over corruption claims in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Assam Cricket Association confirmed the decision on Friday. The tournament is India’s top domestic T20 event.

The suspended players are Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri. All four have played for Assam at different levels of domestic cricket.

The ACA said a First Information Report has been filed with the Crime Branch of the state police. The players are accused of trying to influence and provoke several Assam cricketers who took part in the tournament.

ACA secretary Sanatan Das said the matter was taken seriously after the allegations surfaced. He said the BCCI Anti Corruption and Security Unit has started an investigation. The ACA has also begun criminal action. He added that early findings point to serious misconduct that has damaged the spirit of the game.

Assam played their league stage matches in Lucknow from 26 November to 8 December. The team did not qualify for the Super League stage.

The next steps will depend on the results of the investigations by the BCCI and the law enforcement agencies.
