Four drug traders have been sent to jail in Dasar upazila of Madaripur.
The accused were sent to jail on Thursday in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
The accused are Uttar Chalbal’s Prakash Barai (38), Tanmoy Patra (21), Barai (24) and Rathin Sarkar (21) of Nabagram Union in the upazila.
Earlier on Wednesday, the accused were arrested in a special drive conducted by police and the district detective branch in Dasar upazila. During the operation, 20 grammes of cannabis were recovered from them.
Police and locals said that based on secret information, police and the Madaripur district detective branch jointly carried out an operation at Uttar Chalbal High School field in Dasar upazila at around 9pm on Wednesday. Four drug traders were arrested with drugs during the operation.
Dasar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Tarikul Islam said that under the supervision of the Madaripur additional superintendent of police (sadar circle), four drug traders were arrested in an operation on Wednesday night.
He said several cases are pending against accused Prakash Barai, and that a narcotics case was filed at the police station on Thursday before the accused were sent to jail.
