Four air-conditioner mechanics sustained burn injuries in an explosion while repairing an AC unit at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in the capital on Wednesday.
They are receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The incident took place around 12:00pm at the university campus in Mirpur Cantonment.
The injured are Al Mamun, 31, Sujon, 31, Russell Ahmed, 45, and Selim, 30.
According to the victims, they were repairing an air-conditioner on the second floor of the academic building, near a kitchen area. The AC compressor had already been opened, and the electricity supply was switched off. At one stage, a sudden explosion occurred, leaving all four mechanics burnt.
They were rescued immediately after the incident and taken to hospital.
Resident Surgeon of the emergency department at the burn institute, Shawon Bin Rahman, confirmed that the four injured are currently undergoing treatment.
