Five people were killed, and 15 others were wounded on Monday after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a road on the outskirts of Jerusalem, according to Israel’s ambulance service. The perpetrators have been reported killed, said the police.
The exact number of shooters and their identities remain unconfirmed, and their motives are yet to be identified. Israeli law enforcement has labeled the attackers as “terrorists.” Although no group has taken responsibility, Hamas expressed support for the attack.
Of the 15 injured, at least seven were in critical condition due to gunshot wounds, while nine sustained gunshot injuries, and three were hurt by broken glass.
The incident occurred at Ramot Junction, as reported by Israel’s paramedic service, Magen David Adom. The victims were identified as three men in their 30s, and a man and a woman, both in their 50s.
When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the victims lying on the road and pavement, some unconscious, according to reports. Officers have secured the area, and forensic teams are collecting evidence.
