Actors Arifin Shuvoo and Keya Payel are set to share the screen for the first time in Chorki’s upcoming original film Happily Married, directed by Jahid Preetom.
The film marks Shuvoo’s return to the streaming platform after Unish20 (2023), while it will be Payel’s first collaboration with Chorki. Produced under Chorki’s Ministry of Love (MOL) banner, Happily Married is the seventh film in the anthology project and is co-produced by Chabial. Shuvoo recently made his Indian Bengali OTT debut with Sony LIV’s historical spy thriller series Jazz City and is now preparing for its second season.
According to Preetom, the romantic comedy brings together contemporary relationships, enduring family values and the growing influence of social media. “It is a story of people from two different worlds. It reflects how they perceive their identities, families, society and relationships,” he said, adding that he hopes the film will leave audiences with a meaningful realisation.
Shuvoo plays Anis, a responsible young man from a small town devoted to his family. The actor said the role presents a different side of him. “This is a rom-com, and I genuinely haven’t played a character like this before. Viewers who are accustomed to seeing me in conventional strong male roles will find something different here,” he said.
The story explores modern psychological and social tensions through Anis and Anamika, played by Payel, an urban woman drawn to social media and celebrity culture. Payel said working with Shuvoo, making her Chorki debut and collaborating with Preetom made the project special. “My character is someone audiences can easily fall in love with. It has several layers, and I believe viewers will discover a different side of me,” she said.
Preetom said the film blends humour, romance and emotional family moments while exploring emotional distance, technology’s impact and changing family values. Chorki CEO Redoan Rony said the film continues the Ministry of Love’s exploration of human relationships. Co-producer Nusrat Imrose Tisha said its story of conflict and understanding between two people with different perspectives, along with the leads’ refreshing new roles, drew her to the project.
Before Happily Married, the Ministry of Love released Something Like an Autobiography, Last Defenders of Monogamy, Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya, Forget Me Not, 36-24-36 and Dimlight. Preetom previously directed Ghumpari for Chorki.
