A lightning strike has caused fire at a gas riser beside the gate of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku’s home in Sirajganj caught fire on Wednesday afternoon.
A lightning strike sparked a fire at the gas riser beside the gate of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood’s home in Sirajganj on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:15pm at the house in Hossainpur area of Sirajganj municipality.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and quickly brought the blaze under control.
No damage was reported to the residence or the gas line.
Locals said Locals said heavy rain and strong lightning hit the area around noon. At one point, flames suddenly erupted from the gas riser beside the minister’s gate, triggering panic in the neighbourhood.
Sohel Abbas, an eyewitness, said he saw flames in front of the residence immediately after a loud clap of thunder.
“Lightning struck during the rain, and we suddenly saw flames in front of the gate. We then called the Fire Service,” he said.
Sirajganj Fire Service Station Officer Md Shariful Islam said they received the information around 1:15pm and reached the scene shortly afterwards.
“The gatekeeper told us that the fire started after lightning struck the gas riser beside the gate,” he said.
Md Jewel, the minister’s assistant private secretary, said the gas riser was installed beside the residence’s gate.
“Lightning struck the area while it was raining, and the fire broke out,” he said.
Gatekeeper Shafi also said the fire started immediately after lightning struck the gas riser.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control quickly, preventing any major damage, according to the Fire Service.
