Model and politician Meghna Alam has expressed frustration over media coverage of her past photographs, saying her personal choices, clothing and lifestyle are often judged unfairly.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 8, Meghna said she had been covering her head for nearly two years. However, she claimed that the media continued to publish old photographs showing her cleavage.
“I have been covering my head for almost two years. Meanwhile, the media keeps publishing news about my old photos showing cleavage. A woman’s choice, comfort and modesty seem less important than views. Even if I want to, it is not possible to observe purdah,” she wrote.
In another post on Sunday, September 6, Meghna also spoke about her personal life. She claimed that she had never been involved in a physical relationship.
“I have not been involved in a physical relationship so far. Yet I am subjected to so many allegations simply because I do not follow a religious dress code,” she wrote.
Meghna criticised the tendency to judge women based on their clothing or religious practices. She also stressed the importance of respecting a woman’s personal choices and decisions about her lifestyle.
She further accused society of maintaining double standards. According to her, some influential people who project an image of morality and religious devotion continue to be defended even after serious allegations or viral audio recordings emerge against them.
Questioning such attitudes, Meghna wrote, “What kind of world is this?”
Her recent posts have brought renewed attention to women’s clothing, personal freedom and social judgment. She also questioned the way media outlets use old photographs to portray women, despite changes in their present lifestyles.
