Amitabh Bachchan kept his decades-old Sunday date with fans outside his Mumbai home, Jalsa, on 1 November, but this time a bulletproof glass enclosure stood between the actor and the crowd. His son, Abhishek Bachchan, also joined him as security around the residence tightened following reported threats.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the 84-year-old actor appeared on his usual elevated platform, greeting admirers with folded hands and waves from behind the transparent protective screen. Videos of the interaction later surfaced on social media. Despite the unusual arrangement, Bachchan continued the weekly ritual and gave fans a chance to see him.
Abhishek stood nearby alongside security personnel, keeping a close watch on the surroundings as his father acknowledged the gathering.
The additional precautions follow a threatening email sent to Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde and marked to senior officials. The message reportedly warned of possible bomb blasts at the mayor’s office, Bachchan’s residence and the venue of singer Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming concert. It mentioned a possible attack window between 31 October and 27 November, prompting Mumbai Police and security agencies to remain alert.
Security concerns have also grown following a firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Reports on the investigation say the accused had surveyed the homes of several prominent Bollywood figures, including Bachchan, before the shooting.
Against this backdrop, security arrangements around Jalsa have reportedly been strengthened with barricades and the protective glass enclosure. Bachchan nevertheless maintained his Sunday tradition, continuing his long-standing connection with the fans who gather outside his home each week.
