Members of the Bangladesh Army recovered two firearms and two rounds of ammunition during an operation in a field in Sindurkot village of Meherpur early Sunday.
According to sources, the items had been smuggled from India through the Kazipur border and were being transported to their destination. The smugglers reportedly left the weapons and ammunition in the maize field before the arrival of the army personnel.
Two teams, led by Major Ahmed Fazle Rabbi Niloy and Captain Molla Rifat Raihan from the Gangni Army Camp, carried out the raid.
Uzzal Kumar Roy, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station, confirmed that the firearms and ammunition had been handed over to the police. No individuals were arrested during the operation.
