A fire broke out in the engine of a rubber‑tyred gantry (RTG) crane at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chattogram Port on Monday afternoon.
Port firefighters, Fire Service and Civil Defence, and navy personnel rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
The incident occurred at RTG‑4014, positioned at Berth No. 4 in the southern section of the terminal. The fire originated around 2:30pm was brought under control quickly, preventing major damage or disruption to port operations.
Confirming the incident, Chattogram Port Authority’s Chief Personnel Officer, Nasir Uddin, told Times of Bangladesh that the blaze originated in the engine compartment of the RTG crane.
Following the report, the port’s own fire service unit rushed to the scene and began firefighting operations.
Firefighters and navy personnel later joined the operation, and together they successfully extinguished the blaze.
“The prompt response ensured that the fire did not spread or escalate,” Nasir Uddin said.
He added that the crane’s engine sustained partial damage, but no casualties or significant property damage were reported.
According to the port authority, container handling and all other port activities have continued without interruption, and the overall situation at Chattogram Port remains normal.
