The fire that gutted three plastic factories near the Chairman Ghat neighbourhood in the capital’s Lalbagh area has been contained.
Eleven firefighting units brought the blaze under control around 4pm on Wednesday.
Confirming the matter, Warehouse Inspector Anwarul Islam of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell told TIMES of Bangladesh, “The affected factories are Sabbir Plastic, Hira Plastic, and Ujjal Plastic. The fire from these factories had spread to two or three nearby houses.”
Islam stated that no casualties or serious injuries have been reported so far. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, the fire service units on the ground have managed to bring the fire under control. He noted that it will take some more time to fully extinguish the blaze.
Earlier in the day, confirming the matter, Shahjahan Sikder, duty assistant director (media cell) at Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters, had said, “We received the alert at 1:30pm and immediately rushed to the scene.
“So far, there have been no reports of casualties or injuries.”
Initially, four units were deployed to control the blaze. The operation later expanded to eleven units.
