Former Bangladesh captain Faruque Ahmed has been elected as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), securing the highest number of votes with 42 in the recent board elections. Representing Rangers Cricket Academy as a councillor, Faruque has now also taken on the role of vice-president following the formation of a new full-fledged board.
Speaking at a press conference after his appointment, Faruque shared his feelings about returning to the BCB despite past challenges. When asked why he chose to come back given previous negative experiences, he made it clear that he is focused on the future rather than the past.
“We are now moving forward, I do not want to look back,” he said. “I have said this repeatedly, this is now a full-fledged board. We want to look ahead. Our only goal should be to take Bangladesh cricket forward.”
He acknowledged that setbacks are a part of life but stressed the importance of unity and long-term planning. “Things happen, people face various incidents and difficult times in life. But what is important now is that we focus on one goal, moving forward. The new president had been in charge for three or four months, and now under his leadership we have a complete board. I hope this board remains in place for a long time and that we can progress according to our plans.”
Faruque reaffirmed his dedication to the development of the national game, echoing the sentiments of the board president. “The president has said that our shared goal is. You, the people sitting here, want Bangladesh cricket to move forward. We, too, who are sitting here, share the same desire, to see Bangladesh cricket progress. There is only one goal. There may be obstacles along the way, and we will have to tackle those challenges as they come.”
With his return to the board, Faruque Ahmed aims to contribute to a stable and forward-looking vision for Bangladesh cricket.
