Fariduzzaman Farhad, coordinator of the Nationalist Like-minded Alliance and chairman of the National People’s Party (NPP), has secured the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nomination for the Narail-2 constituency, covering parts of Narail Sadar and Lohagara, ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced Fariduzzaman Farhad’s nomination for the seat at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, on 4 December, the party had named Narail district BNP General Secretary Md Monirul Islam as its candidate for Narail-2. Twenty days later, the party revised the decision and replaced Monirul Islam with Fariduzzaman Farhad.

Several leaders had been campaigning in the constituency in the hope of securing the BNP nomination, including former Narail district BNP organising secretary Shahriar Rizvi George, current district BNP organising secretary Khandaker Ijazul Hasan Babu, adviser to Narail district Zia Cyber Force Manjurul Islam Prince, former district BNP vice-president M Zakaria Mahmud, London BNP joint general secretary Tuhin Mollah, and former acting president of Dhaka College Chhatra Dal H M Rashed.

Earlier, on 3 November, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced Narail district BNP President Bishwas Jahangir Alam as the party’s candidate for the Narail-1 constituency, while saying at the time that the nomination for the Narail-2 seat had been kept on hold.

The BNP later nominated Monirul Islam for Narail-2 on 4 December before revising the nomination in favour of Fariduzzaman Farhad.
