The family of veteran Bangladeshi actor Ilias Kanchan has expressed frustration over false rumours circulating on social media claiming that the beloved star has passed away.
The Safe Roads Movement founder and celebrated Dhallywood actor, known for starring in some of the industry’s biggest box office hits, has been undergoing treatment in London for a brain tumour for more than eight months. His family confirmed that he recently underwent surgery there.
Following media reports about his illness, several social media users and YouTubers began spreading misinformation about his death, a move his family has condemned as deeply hurtful.
In a statement, Kanchan’s son Mirajul Moin Joy urged the public not to be misled by rumours. “My father is unwell and currently receiving treatment. Please don’t believe any false news. I request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery,” he said.
Joy added that since news of his father’s illness became public, supporters of Nirapad Sarak Chai, fans and well-wishers from home and abroad have been praying for him.
“Many have organised special prayer gatherings, especially after Friday prayers. On behalf of our family, I want to express heartfelt thanks and love to everyone for their support,” he said.
He also criticised those spreading fake news online. “Unfortunately, some YouTubers and Facebook users are posting misleading videos just for views. These acts are distressing for fans and hurtful to our family. We strongly condemn such behaviour,” Joy added.
Ilias Kanchan remains under medical supervision in London, where his treatment is continuing.
