Several accounts on X, operated from India, have shared a video claiming that police handed over garment worker Dipu Chandra Das, who was killed in Bhaluka, Mymensingh to a mob, a claim that has been found to be false.
According to the press wing, an investigation shows the video is unrelated to the incident. Reverse image searches reveal that the footage matches a video published on 17 November by the news portal Daily Sokal.
The report said the video actually shows police sending an injured Dhaka College student back to his dormitory by rickshaw after clashes with law enforcement in the Dhanmondi-32 area.
The press wing said the footage has been reused out of context to spread a misleading narrative and has no connection to the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Bhaluka.
Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a mob and later set on fire on 18 December in Dubaliyapara, Hobirbari Union, Bhaluka, following allegations that he had hurt religious Muslim sentiments. His body was later found hanging from a tree along the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
His brother, Apu Chandra Das, filed a case on 19 December against 140–150 unidentified individuals in connection with the killing.
