Reports of two abandoned bomb‑like objects discovered at the Mirpur‑10 and Farmgate metro rail stations on Saturday caused temporary panic and disrupted metro rail operations.
Police from the respective stations, senior officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Bomb Disposal Team quickly arrived at the scenes and reinforced security measures.
However, police confirmed that no explosives or harmful objects were found.
At Mirpur‑10 Metro Station, the CTTC Bomb Disposal Unit responded immediately to reports of a suspicious bag. An X‑ray examination revealed an image resembling a container.
Following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the team safely deactivated the item using a frangible disruptor. Subsequent inspection confirmed the bag contained a tin of chewing tobacco and betel leaf.
Meanwhile, suspicion arose over an abandoned sack found under Farmgate Metro Rail Station. The Bomb Disposal Unit was alerted and then they reached the scene quickly.
After securing the area, the team examined the sack manually and confirmed that it contained no explosives or dangerous materials.
Operations at Mirpur‑10 Metro Rail Station have since returned to normal. Trains are running on schedule, and passenger crowds remain heavy. All gates have been opened to ease congestion.
