A man and his son went missing after an engine-powered boat capsized in the Padma River near the Borokuthi area of Rajshahi city on Tuesday.
The missing men were identified as Afsar Ali, 60, and his son Ziarul Haque, 40, residents of Shyampur Balurghat under Katakhali Police Station in Rajshahi.
Ziarul’s mother, Jahera Begum, 55, was rescued by local boatmen, while five other passengers managed to swim ashore.
Witnesses said eight people were transporting a tree trunk by boat from the Char Majhardiara area when strong waves rocked the vessel and caused it to capsize in the middle of the river at around 12:45pm.
Monjil Haque, deputy assistant director of Rajshahi Sadar Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said six divers were carrying out a search operation to locate the missing father and son.
