A Dhaka court placed former National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman and his wife Laila Kaniz on one-day remand in a corruption case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam on Sunday granted the remand order for Matiur, well-known for the “goat scandal”, and Laila, former chairman of Raipura Upazila Parishad in Narsingdi.

This information confirmed by ACC prosecutor Mohammad Tarikul Islam.

Earlier on August 13, ACC Assistant Director Sabikun Nahar filed a petition for three-day remand.

The court scheduled the hearing for August 31.  However, the hearing was rescheduled to Sunday.

The ACC filed the case on January 6 against Farzana Rahman on charges of concealing Tk2.45 crore and illegally acquiring assets worth over Tk5.34 crore, where Matiur was named as an accomplice.
