International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said he is not taking into account the cocktail explosion in front of Supreme Court, which occurred seven accused, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader received death penalty for crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising.
He made the statement while speaking to journalists at his office on Wednesday.
The cocktail explosion occurred outside the main entrance of the Supreme Court at around 1:15pm on Tuesday, shortly after the verdict was announced at the International Crimes Tribunal.
In its judgement on the day, the court sentenced seven individuals to death – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, banned Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, and banned Chhatra League General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.
When asked about the cocktail explosion, the Chief Prosecutor stated that stringent security measures in uniform and plain clothes are always maintained inside and outside the tribunal. “You may see uniformed security, but we also have security beyond uniforms here,” he said.
Elaborating on the tribunal’s security arrangements, he added that strict security always remains inside and outside the tribunal, as was the case previously and continues to be now, reiterating that they are not taking such cocktail explosions into account.
