A court in Dhaka has granted a fresh three-day remand for retired Lieutenant Colonel Afzal Nasar, former Director of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), in the Delwar Hossain murder case filed with Mirpur Model Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam issued the order on Friday after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence.
According to court sources, the investigating officer Sub-Inspector of DB police Kofil Uddin sought a five-day remand for further questioning, while the defence counsel petitioned for cancellation of the remand and bail.
After the hearing, the court approved the prosecution’s request and granted a three-day remand.
Afzal Nasar was earlier sent to jail following a six-day remand in the same case. He has also faced multiple remand orders in connection with another murder case filed with Paltan Model Police Station over the killing of BNP activist Makbul. After completing interrogation in that case, he was placed in jail custody before being shown arrested in the Delwar Hossain murder case.
He was first placed on a six-day remand in the Delwar case on 30 March and has since been remanded in several phases on 5, 8, 12, and 14 April.
According to the case statement, on July 19, 2024, Delwar Hossain was shot during the anti-discrimination student movement and later succumbed to his injuries on 21 July while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Shyamoli, after initial treatment at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.
His wife, Liza, filed the murder case with Mirpur Model Police Station on 6 July, 2025.
