A court has ordered the seizure of two flats worth Tk 95 lakh in the Nikunja area of Khilkhet, Dhaka, registered in the name of Sanjida Akter, described as a close associate of Bangladesh Air Force ex-chief Sheikh Abdul Hannan.
The order was issued on Tuesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sabbir Faiz following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also directed authorities to freeze Tk 40,56,483 held across 10 bank and financial institution accounts in the name of the accused.
ACC Assistant Director Mahmudul Hasan submitted the plea for the seizure and freezing of the assets.
The application stated that during the investigation of the case against Sheikh Abdul Hannan, a review of records and seized evidence indicated that the former Air Force chief purchased assets in Sanjida Akter’s name to conceal wealth acquired through unlawful means.
The submission also said that Sheikh Abdul Hannan had bought two flats in the capital’s Khilkhet area under the name of his close associate. Investigators further identified fixed deposit receipts worth nearly Tk 45 lakh held in different banks in her name.
During a search of his residence, foreign currencies worth approximately Tk 26 lakh were also recovered, which investigators said appeared inconsistent with his known sources of income.
The ACC petition noted that the freezing and seizure orders were necessary to prevent the transfer or relocation of the assets before the conclusion of the trial.
