Acclaimed Bangladeshi musician Dalia Nausheen, celebrated for her contributions to Nazrul Sangeet and as a vocalist for Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, has passed away. She died at a private hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday, April 1, at 12:57 pm, aged 71, following a prolonged battle with cancer.
Dalia Nausheen was the daughter of acclaimed architect Mazharul Islam and earned national recognition for her lifelong dedication to music. In 2020, she was awarded the prestigious Ekushey Padak, one of Bangladesh’s highest civilian honours, in recognition of her contribution to the country’s musical heritage.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy expressed deep condolences on her passing. Director General Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed, on behalf of the Academy, prayed for the peace of her soul and conveyed heartfelt sympathies to her family and well-wishers. The Academy highlighted her prominence as a vocalist of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and her significant role in popularising Nazrul Sangeet across Bangladesh.
