From early Saturday morning, devotees from across the country began gathering at the Sholakia ground. As time passed, the vast field turned into a sea of people. With space inside the ground running short, many offered prayers on nearby roads, open spaces, and even rooftops of adjacent buildings.
Strict security measures were in place, with worshippers entering through multiple checkpoints. The prayers began around 10am, led by Mufti Abul Khair Md Saifullah, who delivered an important sermon afterward.
A special munajat followed, seeking peace, unity, and prosperity for the nation and the Muslim Ummah. Many worshippers were visibly moved during the prayers.
Historically, the name “Sholakia” originated from the term “Sowalakhia,” referring to the congregation of one and a quarter lakh worshippers nearly a century ago.
As per tradition, blank shots from a shotgun were fired before the prayers to signal readiness.
State Minister for Jute and Textiles Shariful Alam, MP for Kishoreganj Sadar-Hossainpur constituency Mazharul Islam, District Council Administrator Khaled Saifullah Sohel Khan, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aslam Molla, along with senior officials of the local administration and distinguished personalities, attended the programme.
