The Election Commission has urged all election officials to remain alert and not respond to fraudulent phone calls.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the commission said a fraud ring has recently been trying to collect bKash numbers from officials engaged in election duties by falsely claiming that election-time honorariums will be paid in advance.
The fraudsters have been making deceptive calls using the numbers 01342046232 and 01612677074, the release said.
The commission clarified that honorariums for officials involved in the upcoming referendum and national parliamentary elections will be paid after the completion of voting, in line with existing rules.
The payments will be made through the respective presiding officers, and there is no need for officials to contact any individual or institution for the purpose, it said.
The EC has requested all election officials not to respond to any calls from such fraud rings and to remain cautious.
