Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) celebrated its 77th founding anniversary on Tuesday.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor and DUAA chief patron Professor Niaz Ahmad Khan inaugurated the event. DUAA President Shamsuzzaman Dudu presided over the program.
The day started with a rally on the campus. After that, welcome speeches were given.
Shamsuzzaman Dudu said the DUAA has played a role in many sectors. “Alumni will continue to stand beside the university authority and the students in the future,” he said.
DU VC Niaz Ahmad Khan said the institution has come this far after crossing many ups and downs over 77 years. He expressed gratitude to those who contributed to this historic journey.
He also said the activities of the alumni are now more visible. “New connections have been built with everyone through the alumni association”.
He added that former students are continuing their work even while facing criticism, rising above narrow politics. Although many have political affiliations, he urged them not to focus on these differences in their work.
Founded in September 1949, DUAA has since worked to connect Dhaka University graduates and support various academic and social activities.
The organisation was initially known as the “Old Boys Association” until 1959. It was then renamed the “Old Students Association” and, in 1960, became the “Alumni Association” to be ‘inclusive’ of all former students, including women.
