Today [Sunday, 2 August 2026] marks the twenty-third death anniversary of Suraiya Begum, an associate professor of the Department of Information Science and Library Management at the University of Dhaka, says a press release.
She was the wife of the late Tawfiq Aziz Khan, a renowned sports writer and commentator who served as the executive editor of The Daily Star. Her younger son, Taneem Aziz Khan, is the executive editor of the Daily TIMES of Bangladesh.
A distinguished academic and life member of several prestigious organisations, Suraiya Begum was associated with the Bangla Academy, the Library Association of Bangladesh, the Institute of Library Information and Management, and the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.
In addition to her teaching role, she served as a student adviser within her university department.
Her contributions extended to social and community work as a member of the Inner Wheel Club of Dhaka North West and an executive committee member of the Community Development Library.
Relatives and friends are requested to pray for the salvation of her departed soul.
