For the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, the Department of Linguistics of the University of Dhaka organised a language march on Sunday.
The march commenced from the base of Aparajeyo Bangla and concluded at the Central Shaheed Minar, according to a press release.
The event was inaugurated by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the University of Dhaka, Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, who attended as the chief guest.
At the Central Shaheed Minar, teachers and students paid homage to the martyrs of the Language Movement by placing floral wreaths.
The march saw participation from the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan; Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed; Chairperson of the Department of Linguistics, Monira Begum; Convener of the March Sub-Committee, Professor Gulshan Ara; along with numerous teachers and students of the department.
In a longstanding tradition, the Department of Linguistics of the University of Dhaka organises this language march annually to honour the martyrs of the historic Language Movement.
