A Dhaka court has granted bail to Dhaka University Deputy Registrar Lavlu Molla Shishir, who was arrested as a suspected accused in a case filed over the attack on former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s motorcade.
Judge Md Wahiduzzaman of Dhaka’s 17th Additional Metropolitan District Judge Court issued the order on Sunday after concluding the hearing, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Prosecution Division Mia Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan.
During his student life, Lavlu served as president of Chhatra League at Masterda Surya Sen Hall.
After the verdict sentencing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death in a crimes against humanity case, Lavlu had posted a photocard reading “I Don’t Care” on social media.
In the wake of that incident, students handed him over to Shahbagh Police Station on the night of 17 November last year. Subsequently, on 5 April this year, he was shown as a suspected accused in the case filed at Shahbagh Police Station.
According to case sources, Tabith Awal, the BNP-backed candidate in the Dhaka North City Corporation election, was heading out with a motorcade from his Gulshan residence on 22 April 2015.
When the motorcade reached the Banglamotor signal in Shahbagh at 5:30 pm, it was attacked in a pre-planned manner. The attackers vandalised the car and beat and injured several people.
A case was filed over the incident at Shahbagh Police Station on 23 November 2024.
