A young man allegedly hacked his mother to death with a sharp weapon and dumped her body on the road in Rajshahi after she refused to give him money for drugs.
The incident took place on Saturday night at the Old Krishi Bank Mor in the Kharkhari bypass area.
The deceased was identified as Sohagi Khatun, 55, the wife of Azizul Islam. The police have arrested her son, Md. Suman, in connection with the murder.
According to witnesses, Suman was a long-term drug addict who had demanded money from his mother on Saturday night. When she refused to provide the funds, he became enraged and attacked her with a sharp ‘hasua’ (cleaver), repeatedly stabbing her in the chest and abdomen. Sohagi Khatun died on the spot.
Following the killing, the suspect reportedly left his mother’s body on the street and locked himself inside their house. Local residents eventually detained him and handed him over to the police,.
Monirul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandrima Police Station, confirmed that the body was recovered and sent to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. “The accused was arrested at night, and legal action will be taken against him,” the OC stated
