Law enforcement agencies are searching for two people who hurled two crude bombs outside the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the capital’s Tejgaon area.

One of the bombs exploded early Saturday, while the other was recovered unexploded and later defused by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Bomb Disposal Unit.

Police and intelligence agencies are working to identify and arrest the two motorcycle riders suspected of carrying out the attack.

DMP Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Ibn Mizan disclosed the information to reporters after visiting the scene around 2:30am.

According to police, two men arrived at the spot on a motorcycle at around 1:15am. After staying there for two to three minutes and observing their surroundings, they hurled the two bombs before fleeing the scene. Police later learned that the suspects had escaped via Agargaon towards Kafrul Road.

Ibn Mizan said police teams launched an operation immediately after the incident. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being collected to help identify those involved. He said the incident was being treated with the utmost importance and that efforts were underway to arrest the suspects.

Asked about security around the PMO, the police official said the perpetrators had avoided the main road and used a link road to reach the area before fleeing after throwing the explosives. Although security measures were in place along the main thoroughfare, the suspects had taken an alternative route.

Meanwhile, police said an examination of the unexploded device recovered from the scene found no splinters or other harmful materials. Based on preliminary observations, the object appeared to resemble a firecracker, Deputy Commissioner Mizan added.

Earlier on Friday night, crude bomb explosions were also reported outside the July Museum and the NCP office.
