Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has congratulated Navi Pillay on winning the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, describing her achievement as a moment of pride for Tamils worldwide, states NDTV.
Haasan praised the South African jurist of Tamil origin for her contributions to human rights, international law and justice in a post on X.
“Some lives leave you deeply moved. Navi Pillay’s is one such life,” he wrote, highlighting her fight against apartheid and her work to recognise sexual violence as a weapon of genocide under international law.
He described her Nobel win as recognition of an extraordinary journey and a proud moment for the Tamil community.
Pillay previously served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014 and as a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
She has spent much of her career advocating accountability for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
