Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced a Tk4,527.74 crore budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, prioritising dengue control, drainage improvement, waste management and infrastructure development to build a “Clean Dhaka, Green Dhaka”.
DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan unveiled the budget at a press conference at the corporation’s conference room on Thursday.
Describing the budget as “timely, realistic and development-oriented”, he said the plan was prepared considering the immediate needs of city residents and the corporation’s revenue potential.
A major focus of the budget is public health, particularly controlling dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, along with addressing recurring waterlogging in the capital.
The plan includes modernising drainage and manhole systems to improve water flow during heavy rainfall.
Shafiqul, who took charge of the DNCC four months ago, said the corporation had already taken steps to repair roads, clean canals and conduct measles vaccination programmes despite initial budget constraints.
“We are working to recover occupied canals to restore their natural flow and intensify tree plantation campaigns,” he said.
The budget includes several major infrastructure projects, including modernisation of Gabtoli and Mohakhali bus terminals, repair of damaged roads, installation of modern street lights, expansion of the Aminbazar landfill and faster implementation of waste-to-energy projects.
The corporation also allocated funds for slum development, modernisation of city markets and preparing a sustainable management plan for street vendors.
Addressing urban management challenges, the DNCC administrator said the city corporation alone cannot solve all problems as agencies including Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and Public Works Department (PWD) are also involved in city services.
“We are working to ensure better coordination with these departments to build a waterlogging-free city,” he said.
Shafiqul stressed the importance of citizen participation in maintaining cleanliness and preventing dengue.
“If residents remain aware and responsible, we can build a dengue-free and liveable city. The DNCC is at your service 24/7,” he said.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer, Chief Engineer, Revenue Officer and senior officials from different departments attended the press briefing.
