The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) has ordered the immediate withdrawal of three types of food products from three companies following allegations of containing excessive levels of preservatives harmful to human health.
The authority issued the directive through an urgent press release on Thursday, strictly prohibiting all forms of marketing and sales of the specified items. The BFSA has also advised consumers to refrain from purchasing or consuming these products.
According to the BFSA notification, East Cake International Food Ltd has been directed to withdraw its “East Cake Pur Pitha Jam Filled.” East Jibai International Ltd must remove its “East Baker Slice Bread Milk Jam Filled,” while Arboting Food Company Ltd is required to withdraw the “Arboting Food Slice Bread Mix Jam Filled” from the market.
In addition to ordering the market withdrawal, the BFSA has instructed the three companies to cease the marketing of these food items and reiterated its warning to the public against their consumption.
The government agency maintained that regular monitoring and testing would continue to ensure food safety, and necessary legal action would be taken against those found violating the Food Safety Act.
This enforcement action follows a prior incident on 3 July, where a mobile court of the Gazipur District Administration fined East Bakery Tk2 lakh for manufacturing food in unhygienic conditions and other irregularities.
