The road, drain, and footpath development works in ward 33 of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), including the main road of Dhaka Udyan, Block C, and Block D areas, were inaugurated by DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday at the Dhaka Udyan bus stand, with the administrator present as chief guest.
The total cost of the project is about Tk 11.3 crore and the work will be implemented by the contracting company, Messrs Lorin Enterprise.
Under the project, the existing drain line on the main road of Dhaka Udyan will be repaired, and the footpaths and roads will be developed. Additionally, the drains and road repair works will be carried out from Plot 15 of Block C to Road 5, and from Holding Number 1 to 50/C of Road 3 in Block D.
As part of the development plan, nearly 1.5 kilometres of road, 1.09 kilometres of drainage, and nearly 2 kilometres of footpaths will be constructed and renovated.
During the inauguration, Azaz said Dhaka city has endless problems.
“Wherever there is a problem, we are working to find solutions. Dhaka Udyan has developed somewhat unplanned, but we are still trying to repair and improve the roads for the convenience of the citizens,” he added.
He further said that for the last 15 years, no one had the chance to question.
“Now, it’s time to ensure transparency with the participation of citizens. If we make a mistake, the citizens will correct us and ask – whether we are using government money properly,” he added.
Azaz also mentioned that a large project worth approximately Tk 1,000 crore is in the process of being implemented for the overall development of Zone-5.
He said that no hawkers will be allowed to set up in the middle of the roads.
“Everyone must be aware of maintaining cleanliness in front of their houses. A cleanliness drive will soon be launched, and strict action will be taken against those whose houses are found to have garbage in front of them.”
The ceremony was attended by DNCC officials, representatives from the contracting company, and prominent figures from the local community.
