Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)’s Traffic Division filed 3,381 cases against various vehicle owners and drivers for violating traffic laws during a two-day special drive in the capital.
According to a press release, the operations were carried out on Thursday and Friday across different parts of the city to ensure road discipline.
Vehicle seizures and penalties
Beyond the thousands of cases filed, the authorities took significant enforcement actions against unfit and obstructing vehicles.
During the two-day operation, a total of 712 vehicles were sent to dumping stations, while 233 others were towed using wreckers.
The DMP emphasized that such drives will continue as part of their ongoing efforts to maintain traffic order and discipline within the Dhaka metropolitan area.
Division-wise enforcement details
The Traffic-Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of violations with 1,026 cases, which included 18 buses, 52 trucks, 59 covered vans, 189 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 872 motorcycles.
In the Traffic-Wari Division, 439 cases were lodged involving 26 buses, 56 trucks, 51 covered vans, 59 CNGs, and 183 motorcycles, followed by the Traffic-Motijheel Division with 428 cases including 17 buses, 5 trucks, 20 covered vans, 108 CNGs, and 143 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Uttara Division filed 303 cases, while Traffic-Tejgaon followed closely with 300 cases.
Additionally, the Traffic-Gulshan Division recorded 237 cases, involving 11 buses, 4 trucks, 9 covered vans, 21 CNGs, and 109 motorcycles.
In the southern parts of the city, the Traffic-Lalbagh Division registered 171 cases, and the Traffic-Ramna Division filed 141 cases against various vehicles, including buses, trucks, and a significant number of motorcycles.
