Four people were shot dead early in Lawrenceville, Georgia, in what authorities said appeared to be a family dispute, with the suspected gunman taken into custody.
Police said officers responded to a 911 call around 2:30am local time at a residence on the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court, where they found four adults dead from gunshot wounds inside the home.
Local media identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar, 51, of Atlanta, according to AP/UNB.
Gwinnett County police identified the victims as Kumar’s wife Meemu Dogra, 43, Gourav Kumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38.
Kumar has been charged with four counts each of aggravated assault, felony murder and malice murder, along with one count of first-degree cruelty to children and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children.
Three children were present during the shooting but were not injured. Police said the children hid in a closet to protect themselves, and one of them called 911, providing information that enabled officers to reach the scene within minutes.
The children have since been placed in the care of a family member.
The Indian Consulate in Atlanta expressed grief over the incident, saying in a post on X that the alleged shooter had been arrested and that all possible assistance was being extended to the bereaved family.
