Disney has restarted work on its long-awaited live-action adaptation of ‘Tangled’, officially casting Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. The announcement from The Hollywood Reporter signals fresh momentum for the project, which had stalled earlier this year.
The new film reimagines Disney’s 2010 animated hit, which followed the journey of Rapunzel, a princess with magically long hair who escapes life in a hidden tower with the help of charming outlaw Flynn Rider. The original film earned more than $591 million worldwide and expanded into a short film and a successful Disney Channel animated series.
Michael Gracey, best known for directing The Greatest Showman, will direct the live-action version. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has written the screenplay, while Kristin Burr is producing. Lucy Kitada serves as executive producer. Disney has yet to reveal further production details or confirm a release date.
Teagan Croft gained global recognition for her role as Rachel Roth, also known as Raven, in the DC series Titans. The Australian actor also starred in Netflix’s True Spirit, portraying teenage sailor Jessica Watson. Milo Manheim is already familiar to Disney audiences through the popular Zombies franchise and recently expanded his profile with a strong run on Dancing with the Stars, where he finished as runner-up.
Disney first began developing the live-action Tangled project in late 2024 but paused progress in April following the underwhelming box office performance of Snow White. With new casting in place, the studio appears ready to move forward once again.
Tangled joins Disney’s growing slate of live-action adaptations, which includes The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Lilo & Stitch and others. The studio’s next major remake, Moana, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 10.
